The Government spent $13.8 billion on capital works in 1991/92 and will spend about $24.9 billion in 1992/93. Both figures include land acquisition cost but exclude spending on public housing.
Phase I of the Light Rail Transit System completed at a cost of $1.1 billion. The three Tuen Mun regional extensions were completed between November 1991 and February 1992 at a cost of $0.34 billion. The Tin Shui Wai extension at an estimated cost of $0.15 billion is planned for commissioning in early 1993.
Consultants have been commissioned to carry out the investigation, design and supervision of the construction of the new Ma On Shan Treatment works. The treatment works is scheduled to be completed by the end of 1996 at an estimated cost of $850 million.
Refurbishment and improvement works to Queen Elizabeth Hospital started in September 1991 for completion by end 1996 at a cost of $484.6 million.
$785 million expansion of the Tsing Yi South Bridge will be built to tie in with the commissioning of Container Terminal No. 9.

$22 billion environmental protection projects including $1.3 billion North West Kowloon Sewage Treatment & Disposal Scheme; $0 9 billion Nutrient Removal from Tole Harbour Effluent Export Scheme; $1.2 billion East Kowloon Sewage Improvements and Pollution Control; $10.3 billion Strategic Sewage Disposal Schonie and $0.8 billion Hong Kong Island South Sewage Improvements Treatment and Disposal Facilities.
$1.3 billion North West New Territories Sewerage Scheme with a 9km long sewer tunnel to carry treated effluent to the sea through a 3km long submarine outfall is under construction for commissioning in early 1993 to serve the North West New Territories.
