Nature of Links

Public Records Office is a subscribing institutional member of the Commonwealth Archivists Association (CAA) which provides a medium to exchange information on archives administration and records management.

(a) Official participation in the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Agencies mainly through exchange of reports and publications on a regular basis.

(b) The Legal Department

is a corporate member of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law which operates the

Commonwealth Legal Advisory Service

(CLAS). Civil Division and Legal Policy Division have received considerable advice from CLAS especially on

comparative statutory provisions throughout the Commonwealth.

Remarks

Hong Kong will be able to maintain informal link with CAA through its membership in the International Council on Archives even if it stops to be an institutional member of CAA after 1997.

(a)

Informal links through exchange of reports and

publications should continue after 1997. Hong Kong has similar problems as other Commonwealth

jurisdictions and reports on developments in family law, intellectual property and bail, etc. are very helpful.

(b) Essential for the

Department to continue informal links through corresponding with the Service to obtain information on legal developments in major. common law jurisdictions.
