fact that CDC funds are not tied to UK supply was mentioned
in one or two responses as a drawback.
Question 7
Could CDC do more to seek British private sector Co-
investors for their projects?
The majority of Posts felt that CDC was already doing its
best to attract co-investors from the British private
sector, but was hindered by the unattractive investment
climate in the recipient country or the lack of
of good
investment opportunities there
or, as in the case of
Malaysia, because there were few UK firms interested in
such co-operation. Some Posts (eg India, Indonesia and
Uganda) saw scope for more collaboration.
Question 8
Does CDC have a high profile locally? If so among which
groups?
In most recipient countries CDC has a high profile among
government and banking
banking circles and those sectors of
industry/agriculture in which it invests. For obvious
reasons, where CDC is a major investor, especially in small
countries, it tends to have a higher profile than in larger
countries where it is less active or where there already
exists a well developed private sector.
