The Executive Council today considered the Electoral Provisions (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 1993. This gives legislative effect to the constitutional proposals in the Governor's October 7 Address to the Legislative Council, with the exception of the Boundary and Election Commission Bili which was gazetted on 29 January. The Council agreed that the Electoral Provisions Bill should be introduced into the Legislative Council.

This will not necessarily be the last consideration that the Executive Council will give to the Bill. In accordance with normal practice it will wish to consider any amendment of substance to the Bill favoured by a majority within the Legislative Council.

While there were a variety of views in the Executive Council, as in the community, the Council accepted that the Governor's proposals still represented the best focus for Legislative Council's detailed consideration of the arrangements for the 1994/95 elections.
