One point for discussion in OPD (K) would be whether the Foreign Secretary should make a brief visit to Peking on 9 July, on his return from the Tokyo G7 Summit. We

would seek to establish later this month whether

such a meeting would be possible for the Chinese side.

A final decision on the visit, and on the line which the

Foreign Secretary should take, could then be made at

OPD (K).
