Foreign Affairs Committee visit to Hong Kong (16 - 19 October 1993)
The Committee today agreed the attached provisional list of people or organisations it would like to meet during its visit to Hong Kong. I should be grateful if you could let me have your comments as to its feasibility and any other observations you wish to make as soon as possible, including advice as to which meetings might be better arranged at social functions. The Committee hopes it will be possible to arrange the bulk of the meetings at a single venue as outlined in the note sent by Rosie Challis on 14 July. In view of the large number of people the Committee wishes to meet, visits to different parts of Hong Kong will probably not be feasible, but the Committee would like to include a visit to the site of the new airport and a briefing about the airport.
Mr Ross Clarke of LegCo's London Office has kindly offered to help with arrangements for the Committee to meet Members of the Legislative Council. Before I pass the Committee's list to him, however, I should be grateful for any comments you may have on the suggested groupings on the attached list.
The Committee also agreed today that it would hold a press conference before it departs for Taipei on 19 October, but that it would not wish any other press conference to be held either on arrival in Hong Kong, or during the visit. Members will not be giving
