FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: CHINA, TAIWAN, HONG KONG
1. The FAC are shortly to begin conducting an inquiry into "Political and economic relations between UK and China in the period up to and beyond 1997". These are broad terms of reference which the Committee are interpreting to include Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Mr Goodlad will meet members of the Committee on 14 July and they will be visiting the Far East from 12-22 October.
2. FED have been asked to produce a memorandum on relations with China and Taiwan. This will necessarily be a
wide-ranging document and I would be grateful to receive contributions on the following topics from the departments listed by close of play Wednesday 16 June.
