Thank you for your letter dated 2 August 1993.

The Judicial Officers (Tenure of Office) Bill was passed by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong on 30 June and was enacted on 1 July as the Judicial officers (Tenure of Office) Ordinance. The commencement date, to be appointed by the Governor at a later date, will be synchronised with the coming into operation of the necessary amendments to the Letters Patent and Royal Instructions.
