Thank you for your letter of 13 July.
The Civil Service Recruitment and Assessment Services have sent me the enclosed literature on direct entry recruitment at Grade 7 level in the Home Civil Service, which should give the information you require about opportunities for experienced HMOCS officers within the Home Civil Service. They have pointed out that although applications can be considered from people up to age 60, employing departments will normally expect several years service from successful candidates before the normal Civil Service retirement age of 60. This may mean that those over 52 may be unlikely to be acceptable unless they have quite outstanding qualities and experience.
Demand for vacancies in the current climate is at a very low level, around 10-15 per year. RAS only advertise on a demand basis but they will hold completed applications until they are asked to fill specific vacancies.
