Dear Nigel

Thank you for letting me see Paul Fifoot's latest FAX (19 July) on the draft Sterling Safeguard Scheme. We have the following
comments:
Paragraph 1 This is important otherwise calculations become
rather messy.
Paragraph 2/h)(i) - We would prefer to see the revised wording: "The pension first awarded to an officer with efíeci Irom the date of his reirement or, if the pension is deferred, the amount that would have been awarded had the pension commenced on the dateof his retirement; without any addition or increase howsoever authorised."
Paragraph_4(2) - Yes. But pensions may be put into payment or come to an end during a month in which case we are interested in the officer's or dependant's total income for that month compared with the proportion of the notional monthly pension figure again for the same period.
Paragraph 10 Just an observation.

Heads A, B and E do not need references to Sections 1&2 of the PIA71 as the starting point for the notional pension is 8 April 1991 well after the first order was made under Section 50 of the Social Security Act 1975.
