for your faxed letter of 3 June regarding statistics on HMOCS officers expected to be still in service in 1997 and to be covered by the HMOCS compensation scheme.

We are now running a computer programme to verify the number of officers who would retire normally between now and 1997 and the results should be available in a few days time.

In addition approximately 50 HMOCS officers have already gone under the LCS or the Special Branch Compensation Scheme.

this case the figure of 170 should be reduced to

about 120.

In

I suspect that we shall eventually end up with a figure of about 380 to 400 HMOCS officers left in 1997 and I shall let you have the confirmed figures shortly.
