Dear Anthony,

1. Hamish Macleod, Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, has drawn my attention to his letter of 1 November to Royal Matters Section in which he, as Patron of the 1994 Exhibition, asks for The Queen's permission for some stamps from the Royal collection to be exhibited here then. I enclose a copy of his letter.

2. This will be a big occasion in the philatelic world in this region and I believe it is entirely fitting that some of the Royal Collection should be part of it. The Collection has enormous prestige, and would enhance the Exhibition. Parts of the Collection have travelled abroad before. Indeed the current proposal was first discussed between Hong Kong's Postmaster General and John Marriott, Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection, at an exhibition in Bangkok this year which included some of the Queen's stamps. I understand that John Marriott is enthusiastic but needs formal approval.

3. The proposal has our strong support here and I'd be grateful if you could keep an eye on it.

you eve Ги
