Q41. What will be the arrangements for the final departure?
(Including any references to an RN Task Force)
A41. It is still too far in the future to plan the details of the final military departure from Hong Kong, (if pressed) we
will keep you informed as plans develop.
Q42. When will you cease recruiting HKMSC?
A42. The last recruit intake passed out on 25 June. The
training depot will now be closed.
Q43. Does this mean HKMSC will leave Stonecutters?
A43. No, their HQ and depot will remain there, only the
recruit training element will close.
Q44. Transport Squadron relocating to UK?
A44. This autumn 28 Squadron Queen's Own Gurkha Transport
Regiment, based at Gun Club Hill Barracks, will transfer to the UK to take up a new task as part of the United Kingdom Field Army. About 170 Gurkhas will be leaving Hong Kong.
Q45. Will Gun Club close?
A45. No, other garrison units will continue to occupy it
until, we estimate, 1996.
Q46. TDGB/HQBG/BGMRO?
A46. The headquarters, administration and training depot of
the Brigade of Gurkhas has been planned to move to the UK
(confirm Pirbright?) for some time. There is no change to
those plans. The units will move in late 1994.
