CONCLUSIONS

49. The conclusions of the 1993 Review of the Hong Kong Garrison

Outline Withdrawal Plan are:

The new concept of operations for BFHK requires a Garrison

minimum strength of two battalions (paragraphs 9 to 11).

The Second Gurkha Battalion should be withdrawn by October

1994 (paragraph 12a).

c.

Subject to confirmation in the 1995 Review, the last Gurkha

battalion should be withdrawn in December 1996 and the final UK

roulement battalion should be withdrawn by 30 June 1997 (planning

to proceed accordingly) (paragraph 12b).

d. Supporting Arms and Services should contract and reduce

progressively, commensurate with the continuing need to support

the reducing Garrison and as recommended by the Tri-Service

Logistic Review (paragraphs 13 and 15).

e.

Every opportunity should be taken to reduce holdings of

ammunition, WMR and defence stores early. Compensating

enhancements of JTP 30 should be made (paragraphs 14 and 15).
