The CIC will be the central point for receiving information on all matters relating to the emergency and it will use all channels available to it to gather information. The CIC will also be the main agency for disseminating information as directed by the IPC.
Details of the staffing and communications available to CIC are given in Part II of this chapter.

Details of
the
tasks of GIS's other sub-divisions are also contained in Part II. Departmental information units would continue to operate as necessary.

Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) would, however, be reduced to a skeleton staff to handle hot lines and routine information only. would be re-deployed to help man the CIC at GIS.

The main task of RTHK in an emergency is to provide an information service to the public through its Own radio channels and a service to the local commercial TV and radio stations through its own
resources.

The Director of Broadcasting will receive general direction from IPC. RTHK will maintain its 24-hour radio news service in Chinese and English, augmented as necessary. Important announcements affecting the public may have to be broadcast immediately they are authorised for release.
