HARBOUR TRANSPORT
INTRODUCTION
The Marine Department Harbour Transport Unit will maintain such marine transport as is required for essential services in a civil emergency.
GENERAL

A number of private firms providing essential services use their own marine transport in normal times (for example, the oil companies, and the waterboat companies) and it is intended that these firms will retain the use of their transport in an emergency.
3.
Other interests are dependent upon outside transport and it is their needs, together with those of the Security Forces, for which this section caters.
CONTROL
4.
The Assistant Director of Marine (Government Fleet Division) will be responsible for the overall control of the Government fleet. The Assistant Director of Marine (Marine Districts Division) is responsible for the co-ordination of the activities of the two major ferry companies. He will be assisted by the Senior Fleet Manager, Government Dockyard.
5.
Arrangements will be made for the management of the Star Ferry Company and the Hong Kong & Yaumati Ferry Company to maintain close liaison with the Assistant Director.

The protection of the remote installations for the Vessel Traffic System - the radar stations, communication receivers, transmitters and navigational aids are, in many cases, situated on
