These two incomers are linked for automatic changeover and distribution is enabled through 11 rectifier substations at various locations of the network.

Diesel locomotives have been retained for freight trains and there is no intention to replace them in the immediate future. At any one time, there is approximately ten-days' supply of diesel fuel in store.

Line telephones are the KCRC's main means of communication. However, the company has portable radio telephones for deployment to incident sites, together with a number of radio packsets, and control centres to EMU trains radio communication systems, etc.
