SOCIAL WELFARE

During an emergency the Social Welfare Department will be responsible (in addition to maintaining its normal services as far as possible) for the feeding of persons rendered temporarily homeless through civil disturbances or the imposition of a curfew. It will also assist in the feeding of security forces and essential workers (see Chapter 12 Part IV).

THE KOWLOON KITCHEN

Certain senior officers of the Department will have Key roles in emergency operations. Their residential telephone numbers are listed in the current issue of the Hong Kong Government Telephone Directory. In particular, either of the following officers can be contacted in an emergency outside normal office hours:

(a) Regional Officer (New Territories

West); and

(b) Senior Social Security Officer in SWD

Headquarters.

These officers will be responsible for ensuring the Kowloon Kitchen is operating smoothly.

The Kitchen, in Cornwall Street, has the capacity to produce 62,000 meals a day if all delivery is done by CAS personnel.
