International services of all types except television are carried by submarine or land cables, satellite systems, HF radio and broadband radio. On major routes more than one method is used where possible to ensure continuity of service.
Telegrams

Telegrams are accepted at Hong Kong Telecom Service Centre, Hong Kong Telecom CSL Shops and by telephone and telex and facsimilie. Delivery is by messenger, telephone, telex, or facsimile and in some cases by post.
In emergency circumstances sales offices may be closed and the messenger service curtailed, but telephone, telex and facsimile services could continue.

The Telex
and Each the
service has exchanges switchboards in Telecom House and Hermes House. exchange is capable of operating both international and national services independently, but to a limited extent. They are connected by duplicated copper and fibre-optic cables which run in the MTRC and CHTC cross-harbour tunnels. Subscriber connections are via Hong Kong Telephone Company Limited local lines.

Leased Telegraph Circuits

Many Leased Telegraph Circuits utilise computerized message switching; this is based in Telecom House.
Some customers have communications centres in Telecom House but customer connections in their own offices are via Hong Kong Telephone Company lines.

The packet switching centre (Intelpak) of HKTI is housed in Telecom House.
Access to the international service is available to licensed domestic service providers (eg, HKTI's International Database Access Service and Hong Kong Telephone Company's DATAPAK). Public access to data services
is via Hong Kong Telephone Company lines.
