RESPONSIBILITIES

Hong Kong Telecom International (HKTI) is responsible for the provision and maintenance of international telegraph, telex, leased circuit, telephone, data, facsimile, television and programme services. together with a number of services for the Security Forces and for the Hong Kong Government, and other communications services within Hong Kong. An outline of these services is given at Annexure A to this Part.

Legislative authority for the control of telecommunications is contained in Part III of the Telecommunication Ordinance (Chapter 106).

AIM

It is the aim at all times to maintain all services (on a 24-hour a day basis where applicable) but in the event of circumstances necessitating reductions then priorities are as detailed in Annexure B to this Part.

Elaborate "Restoration Plans" are held by all stations concerned with international services to ensure continuity of service as far as is practicable in any abnormal circumstances.

SERVICES

General

Hong Kong Telecom International stations in Hong Kong are listed in Annexure C to this Part. Each station fufils more than one function and many of the services in Annexure A require the facilities of more than one station. Many of the stations are linked by a complex of landlines and multiplex radio system which are engineered to provide continuity of service despite interruption to some links.
