Provided that the officer meets all other conditions for transfer, an extension may be granted to his current contract to cover the period of naturalisation if necessary.

If he successfully acquires BDTC status, he should inform the ċepartment immediately and further employment may be offered to him on local terms and conditions. However if he fails in the naturalisation process, he will have to leave the service at the end of his (extended) contract.

For officers who intend to naturalise as BDTCs on application for transfer

If at the time of applying for another contract an officer wishes to transfer to local terms and conditions of service but has not applied for naturalisation yet, he should do so immediately within two weeks of applying for local terms and conditions.

Should the officer meet all other conditions for transfer he may be granted an extension of contract if necessary to cover the period of naturalisation. If he succeeds in naturalisation he may be offered a contract on local terms and conditions of service. If he fails to naturalise, he will have to leave the service at the end of his (extended) contract.

For Officers who wish to remain on overseas terms

These officers can apply for renewal of agreement on overseas terms and conditions as before and their applications will be considered under CSR 281. However they should be informed that if they are permanent residents, they will forfeit their right to apply for transfer in future.

Transitional Arrangements

The following arrangements apply to officers whose contracts will be expiring soon after the announcement of the changes.

A.

For officers who have been notified of agreement on localisation grounds whose contracts have not expired as at

non-renewal

but 30.7.93

An officer who wishes to transfer to local terms and conditions of service should apply for the transfer. and naturalisation if necessary, before 30.9.93 or his contract expiry date, whichever is the earlier. Should he fulfil all the other conditions for transfer, an extension may be given to tide over the period of naturalisation.
