BRIEF BY OVERSEAS ESTATE DEPARTMENT FOR THE VISIT OF

MR GOODLAD TO HONG KONG: MAY 1992

A sheet of Essential Facts and Post Estate Strategy is

attached. These have been agreed with Post.

1.

Offices:

2.

The lease for the BTC offices runs until April 1997 but

can be terminated earlier if need be. As a contingency

against expansion of BTC in the run up to 1997, we recently

leased the remainder of the ninth floor. Work to adapt it for

BTC use is due to complete in May.

3. The JLG Offices are larger than we need at present and

could also provide for additional requirements in the period

up to 1997.

Residences:

4.

The Senior Trade Commissioner has an excellent apartment

in The Albany close to Hong Kong's business centre. It could

serve the future Consul General after 1997 if need be.

The Senior Representative to the Joint Liaison Group lives in

a modern town house on the Peak. It is small but serves the

purpose well enough at present.
