Many thanks for your letter. On the 4th of November the editor of the Irish newspaper which proposes to publish the story indicated that he had no need of my copies of your cables. He gave me to understand that a number of Euro MEP's, members of the Dail and, though less clearly, some former members of the Irish Government, had made available to him considerably more cables than I have been given. He also gave me to understand that copies of a large number of FCO cables connected with this case were available in KL, in any case.

I have now heard with incredulity that the case against George Tan has collapsed, because the judge was a shareholder in a Carrian subsidiary. Mr. Tan will have been 10 years on bail when the trial recommences. Do I need to ask you what exactly passes for the efficient administration of justice under the Crown in Hong Kong ?

And do I recall Mr. Nicolls QC assuring Lord Justice Wolfe that no such delays as those now promulgated by the schedule of evidence taking, were either possible or in prospect, not to mention the implications arising from the collapse of the Tan case. It is now clear that a corrupt prosecution, with the sanction of the UK High Court, proposes to hold Lorrain Osman on remand in custody for 10 years.

Pass my compliments to Mr.Matthews QC and tell him that if I did my job the way he does his, my monthly magazine would appear about once every three years. The handling of the overall Carrian case is the single biggest legal scandal in the western world, and sooner rather than later, the world is going to wake up to the fact.
