In reply to members' enquiry, Mr Leung said that the majority of the unsuccessful applicants would have received the rejection letter by early June 1992. Mr Kwok supplemented that for each occupational group in the general occupational class and the disciplined services class, a certain number of applicants (on average about 10% of the quota) whose scores were very close to the quota line had been informed that their applications were still under consideration. These applicants might still have a chance of success depending on the results of the interviews for those ahead of them in the queue.

Mr Kwok said that unsuccessful applicants in the first tranche would all be reminded in the rejection letter that they might apply again in the second tranche. Members noted that the second tranche was expected to commence immediately after the end of the first tranche in 1994 so that the momentum of the scheme could be maintained. A review of the current tranche of the scheme was scheduled to commence in mid-1992 and details of the second tranche would probably be announced in late 1993.
