1. I submit for Ministerial approval two further lists of

172 British Undertakings approved by the Advisory Group in

Hong Kong. (A third list has been referred back to the BTC

for clarification.)

Following previous practice the DTI have checked with

Companies House in respect of those companies which claimed a connection with a British registered company. They found

that a number of companies on the third list were not

registered and we are therefore looking further into them in

order to resolve their status. In addition, two on list 2

are subject to query, Gilman Engineering and Peter Fraenkel

Consultants (HK) Ltd, (marked with an X on the list). As

for the other names forwarded to us by Hong Kong, apart from

a few minor comments which have now been resolved, the DTI

are content and have approved them.

3. We are satisfied that all the names on these lists

qualify under our established guidelines. For ease of

reference I attach a consolidated list of the various

categories used for defining a British Undertaking. I

recommend that the names should go forward to the Governor
