aremitted with a BUNAC identity card. They may be admitted for up to 6 months
on Code 2. They may take employment for the whole of their stay but must obtain
approval from the Department of Employment for each job they take. Switching to
remain as a visitor or student is permitted and the Department of Employment may give
consideration to applications for training and work experience. Applications for further
leave for the purpose of employment are refused. Registration with the police required
if the stay exceeds 3 months.

UK/US Development Programme (Concession)
This scheme is operated by the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and exchange and
the Association for International Practical Training. It is intended for highly qualified
US nationals with up to 7 years experience in their particular profession and who wish
to work in the UK to further their experience. Participants will be in their
twenties/early thirties and intend to return to the US to resume their careers. Prior
entry clearance is required and leave to enter may be given for up to 18 months.
Registration with the police required if the stay exceeds 3 months.

IAESTE (Concession)
The International Association for the Exchange of students for Technical Experience
sponsors the exchange of students in higher education for practical experience in industry and similar specialised fields. IAESTE (UK) arrange the placing of students
from abroad with British firms for a period of not more than 3 months usually between
June and October. Students are issued with an IAESTE permit, a copy of which is
surrendered to the immigration officer on entry. Entry clearance is optional and leave
to enter is given for 3 months on Code 1 and no further leave on this basis may be
granted. Switching is permitted to visitor or student status and the Department of
Employment may give consideration to continued training under TWES.

American Institute for Foreign Study (Concession)
Two exchange schemes have been operated since 1987. One makes use of the existing
BUNAC arrangements and the other programme for AIFS students in the United
Kingdom relates to some 500 American students attending full-time courses at
Richmond College and a further 1,000 in London on the AIFS partnership programme.
