Seasonal Agricultural Workers (Rules)

Seasonal agricultural workers may be admitted under paragraph 40(f) of HC 251. The

total number of workers admitted is subject to a quota which is currently 4000 per year

and is divided among six operators. The recruits must be students in full time education

aged 18 to 25 inclusive, with the exception of those in possession of a valid camp card

and a specific invitation from an approved scheme operator. Seasonal agricultural

workers may be admitted for 3 months or until 30 November on Code 4, whichever is

the shorter period, and extensions may be sought for a further 3 months or until 30

November. Switching is only permitted to visitor or student status (if non-visa

national). Police registration is only required if the stay exceeds 3 months.

Voluntary Workers (Concession)

This scheme operates as a concession outside the Immigration Rules. The scheme

extends to volunteers coming to work for organisations which are registered as a

charity. Voluntary workers should only receive board and accommodation and pocket money. They must not engage in work which is purely administrative (including fund

raising), clerical or maintenance work and the work should be closely related to the

aims of the organisation. They are expected to leave the UK at the end of their visit.

Prior entry clearance is not essential but clear documentary evidence must be produced.

They may be admitted for a maximum of 12 months on Code 4. Except for volunteers

placed by CSV foreign nationals will be required to register with the police if the stay

is for more than 3 months.

BUNAÇ (Concession)

The BUNAC scheme is an exchange scheme coming under a concession outside the

Immigration Rules for US nationals at least 18 years of age and in full-time courses at

universities in North America. Prior entry clearance is not required and participants
