INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY

OF THE DEMOCRATIC

AND LABOUR MOVEMENT

AGAINST REPRESSION IN CHINA

WE WILL GO AND MEET OUR

BROTHERS IN CHINA

• Considering that the crackdown is bill underway in China thirty months after the sinister date of June 4, 1989.

- Tens of thousands of people are still in jail thanks to the Li Peng- Deng Xiao Ping regime;

The Chinese authorities themselves, the Beijing Court of Law especially, aknowledge that torture is being inflicted on thousands of prisoners;

- no one knows the exact number of people dead or imprisoned and in what conditions;

-The situation of prisoners' families is very hazardous.

Considering that Chinese students and workers have committed no

crimes;

· Their only “guilt" was to set up autonomous organisations independent from those in power, and especially the Autonomous Beijing Workers Federation and the Autonomous Beijing Students Alliance. At the end of May 1989, they set up a permanent Association grouping all sectors, students, intellectuals, workers and citizens of Beijing.

- The only aim of these worker and student associations was to struggle peacefully and in law-abiding manner for democracy, against corruption and privileges, against social injustice.

Considering that the peoples of the world have not forgotten their Chinese brothers' call for help,

Several commissions went to China in 1991 to meet the prisoners and their families. Some were allowed to enter and others weren't. But none of them were able to organise an independent inquiry among prisoners and their families. The Beijing authorities prevented that.

- An international Inquiry Commission of the Labour and Democratic movement was set up to "Reveal the truth about the persecutions Chinese workers are being submitted to. For the application of law and the respect of human rights, for the families of the dead begiven allowances, those wounded and maimed to be taken care of, for prisoners to be freed." It was never granted the visas it demanded to go and see and tell the truth for all the world to hear.

Meanwhile the Chinese government receives businessmen, bankers and government representatives of various countries and among them those from the South African racist regim.
