Self discipline is the aim.

Group work and cooperation.

SCHOOL RULES AND DISCIPLINE

The most important school rules are those which hardly need stating. We expect pupils to be courteous, hard- working and sensible. Bullying (which includes not simply a big pupil persecuting a small one but a group of pupils being cruel to another group or to an individual) is probably the worst thing that can happen in a school and will be treated as a very serious offence.

In the nature of things some pupils will get themselves into trouble during their school days; most of it will be small trouble, but some will be large. We try to give students room in which to grow, but we do have boundaries and we

enforce them.

Students need boundaries both to feel safe in and to test themselves out against. We try to be sympathetic when students get themselves into trouble. It helps greatly if they make a policy of telling the truth. Our experience in the school is that lying only makes things worse. We are much more prepared to help students in trouble when they tell the truth.

When students join the school all parents sign the following undertaking which is included on the application form:

"I agree to accept school rules and discipline on behalf of my child and to support the school system of enforcing school rules and discipline generally."

We expect parents to stick to this undertaking. Good discipline in a school of this nature depends on the co- operation of home and school. We deliberately keep the boundaries of responsibility at home and school somewhat hazy; what our pupils do even during weekends and holidays sometimes affects the reputation of the school and the freedom or otherwise of their peers. What happens in school affects the home and family.

Some of the more particular school rules are listed in the school diary.
