The British Trade Commission in Hong Kong have been
closely monitoring the Hong Kong press coverage over the
weekend.
1.
2.
3.
They report as follows:
Unsurprisingly, the announcement dominated all media
coverage from the time it was made (even knocking a
particularly nasty gun battle into second place, though the Hong Kong Standard managed to combine the two by saying that Mr Patten will have to become the "Law and order" governor).
4.
On Friday evening (HK time) TVB interrupted normal broadcasting for a live feed of Mr Patten's press conference. All channels carried lengthened news broadcastss and ATV ran a special in its late night news
slot. Press coverage was extensive throughout the weekend
