The British Trade Commission in Hong Kong have been

closely monitoring the Hong Kong press coverage over the

weekend.

Unsurprisingly, the announcement dominated all media

coverage from the time it was made (even knocking a

particularly nasty gun battle into second place, though the Hong Kong Standard managed to combine the two by saying that Mr Patten will have to become the "Law and order" governor).

On Friday evening (HK time) TVB interrupted normal broadcasting for a live feed of Mr Patten's press conference. All channels carried lengthened news broadcastss and ATV ran a special in its late night news

slot. Press coverage was extensive throughout the weekend
