The delegation was met and briefed by the Deputy General Manager of

the Shenzhen Airport Corporation, Mr. Kong Dong.

Feasibility study on the construction of the Shenzhen Airport was started

in March 1984. The annual flight volume is designed to reach 90,000 sorties, with 44

to 48 sorties during peak hour movement. The maximum annual passenger throughput

is 10 million, with 3 000 to 4 000 passengers during peak hour movement.

Construction works was started in May 1989 and finished in September 1991. The

total construction investment was RMB 984 million.

The first completed runway is 3 400 meters in length and 60 meters wide

(with shoulders of 7.5 meters on each side). The parallel taxiway is 3 400 meters in

length and 44 meters wide (with shoulders of 10.5 meters on each side). The runway

and the taxiway are 200 metres apart, linked by 4 high-speed exit taxiways (one exit

taxiway at either end, one rotary taxiway at the north end and two exit taxiways

linking to the tarmac). The tarmac can accommodate 12 aircrafts, occupying some

11.4 ha. of land. Aircrafts parked near the terminal can be connected with 8 boarding

bridges, while aircrafts parked at a distance are served by 4 shuttle buses.
