The delegation was met and briefed by the Chairman of the Shenzhen

Dongpeng Industry Co. Ltd. which was responsible for development of this port.

This port has a planned wharfline of 16.4 km with 48 deep water berths

including 9 container berths, 6 coal berths, 23 bulk and general cargo berths and 10

berths for other purposes. By the year 2000, the estimated cargo throughput is 42.7

million tons and will reach 76 million tons by 2020.

At present, the port has completed one berth for 15,000 ton-class ships,

one berth for 3,000 ton-class and three berths for 1,000 ton-class. By the end of

1992, two berths of 50,000 ton-class ships with 350 meters of wharfline will be

completed. A total investment of RMB 500 million has been made to provide the

existing five berths and some 60 ha. of back-up land (see plan at Appendix 5, 6).

14.

A dedicated freight rail to connect the port with the national railway

network is under construction.
