The term of office of members of the first Legislative Juncil of the Macao SAR will be up to 15th October 2001.

(Appendix): Proposal by the Macao SAR Basic Law Drafting Committee on Establishment of Macao SAR Basic Law Committee under the NPC Standing Committee

(1) Name: Macao SAR Basic Law Committee under the NPC Standing Committee.

(2) Affiliation: To be a working committee under the NPC Standing Committee.

(3) Function: To study questions arising from implementation of Articles 17, 18, 143 and 144 of the Macao SAR Basic Law and submit its views thereon to the NPC Standing Committee.

(4) Composition: Ten members, five from the mainland and five from Macao, including persons from the legal profession, appointed by the NPC Standing Committee for a term of office of five years. Macao members will be Chinese citizens who are permanent residents of the Macao SAR with no right of abode in any foreign country and will be nominated jointly by the Chief Executive, president of the Legislative Council, and chief justice of the region's Court of Final Appeal, for appointment by the NPC Standing Committee.
