Dear Miss Lau,

Thank you for your quick response to our 21 January letter. I have delayed writing you until I could find out if the Director General would be able to attend. That date, 21-22 May, is tentatively on his schedule, and unless something unexpected occurs, he will head the seminar.

I

I have looked at the tentative agenda you sent and made a few changes. We are limited in who we can get to speak on radiation, as there is a world-wide conference on radiation protection in Canada at the same time as the seminar. I am attempting to get Mr. Wahlström, who spoke in Bangkok. I have not included the HKNIC nominated chairmen in the appropriate places. think that might best be done by you after you receive a response to your invitation to them. I should note that in the title, the "hosted by," etc. you should include somewhere, in additiion to your company's name, the Hong Kong Government or the United Kingdom. This is because the Agency only works with governments, not private companies. Perhaps Mrs. Lo will have a : suggestion on this.

I have not filled in all the speakers names for the programme, as I am waiting for a response from one or two here. Also, I am not sure if you wanted us to invite those people you have indicated in your notes, or ask them to nominate a speaker from their organization. I am particularly confused regarding the French feedback speaker. Did you want a French speaker or someone from GNPJCVC to speak. As a matter of standard practise, the Agency pays for the international (and IAEA) experts, and local speakers have been invited to the seminar and their expenses paid by the host country. I believe it is best to continue this practise. However, we could invite and pay for a speaker from EdF if you would like. Another item I should note is Mr. Erwin who will be at Daya Bay the morning of 22 May and will come to the seminar after lunching there. Therefore he will not be available to speak until 15:30, at the very earliest. Also, will English be the only language or will you provide translation English/Chinese and Chinese/English?
