Cannot go into detail but it is well known that the
problem concerns Taiwan. British side of the JLG have recently made proposals to resolve this. Hope that signature of ASAs will resume soon.

Jardines would be well advised not to pursue this whilst
their wider future on the HKSE remains unresolved.
Better to settle the listing issue before pressing the banking license issue.

Matter is one for HKG, and has been reviewed at intervals
since 1989.
New Governor and criticism of Lord Wilson
No decision yet taken on successor. Lord Wilson of
Tillyorn has done, and continues to do, an excellent job.
Full confidence in him, but never intended that he should
stay until 1997: has been there for 5 years.
A decision on his successor is expected soon after the
election.
Important to make the right decision not to rush
it.
It is intended that the next Governor shall be British.
- There are no plans to create a position of Deputy
Governor.
