A useful visit, important to make our concerns known at a political level. Hope Qian will take back to China our message about the need to push on more rapidly with the work
of the JLG.
Not a time for detailed negotiations. That best done by
experts in Hong Kong.
Court of Final Appeal (CFA)
Remain satisfied that the agreement, which allows for the early establishment of the CFA was the best deal possible. The Chinese have made it clear that they will not reopen
negotiations.
- Have great confidence in local judiciary. Sure that when people in Hong Kong see the draft legislation they will be reassured that the independence of the Judiciary will be
maintained.
Hong Kong Transition Advisers
The Chinese have offered assurances that the Transition Advisers will not become a centre of power or be involved in
the Administration of Hong Kong.
We want the Chinese to take more interest in views from people in Hong Kong but we hope that they will consult all
