a good number of TV and radio interviews (we will try and discuss this with you during our brief visit on 15 September);

a session with Hong Kong journalists and stringers at Grafton Street in the late morning of 19 November.

Business:

a lunch with the Committee of the Hong Kong Association on 16 November. Given that the Governor will be giving a speech to the Parliamentary lobby and another at the TDC dinner on 18 November, he does not want to give a formal speech as suggested by the Association. But he would be pleased to have lunch with them if they would like that.

Apart from the lobby correspondents lunch and the TDC dinner, the programme contains so far a dinner with the Secretary of State on 17 November, a lunch with the Prime Minister on 18 November and a lunch with Mr. Goodlad on 19 November. We are asking the FCo to arrange an office meeting with Ministers in the early part of the visit. The Governor would like to keep all day on 15 November and the evening of 16 November free. He proposes to fly to Newcastle (to see Katej after iunch on 19 November. No appointments should therefore be made that afternoon or evening or on 20 November.

The Governor will be accompanied by Mike Hanson, PAward Llewellyn end myself. We will be arriving toge Toronto on BA92 early in the morning on 15 November and leaving for Hong Kong on BA27 at 2115 on 20 November. Grateful if you would make the usual arrangements for the VIP lounge and for a hire car with chauffeur.

The Governor will stay in his Westminster flat. Edward will be making his own arrangements. Grateful if you would book a hotel for Mike and myself. The Holiday Inn Mayfair might be the best bet. I confirm that we will base ourselves at Grafton Street.
