Other contacts with China
Working level exchanges have continued to expand
the year, as Hong Kong’s economic relationship, particularly with neighbouring Guangdong Province, develops. In 1992 over [271] official delegations from Hong Kong visited China and over [124] delegations from China visited Hong Kong. Lord Wilson and Mr Patten both visited China in 1992. The Director of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Lu Ping visited Hong Kong. In
addition, there were visits by the Chinese Ministers of
Personnel and Posts and Telecommunications, the Governor of
the People's Bank of China, the Governors of Guangdong,
Liaoning, Jiangxi,
Jiangxi, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Anhui, Hunan, Zhejiang and Hainan Provinces and the Mayors of Peking and Shanghai. The programmes of sponsored visits to enable Chinese Government officials and Hong Kong
Kong Government
officials to improve their understanding of each other's system of government continued, as did familiarisation visits by Hong Kong Government Administrative Officers to China.

Hong Kong/China Economic Relationship
Economic links between Hong Kong and China are
beneficial and increasing fast. In trade, Hong Kong and China remained each other's largest trading partner in
1992 with China accounting for
trade and Hong Kong [37%] of overtook the United States to become the largest market for
Hong Kong's domestic exports. The value of Hong Kong's
[33%] of Hong Kong's total China's total trade. China
domestic exports and re-exports to China increased by [17%] and [41%] respectively. Apart from the continued growth in outward processing trade, China's booming economy and its relaxation of import controls have contributed to the growth in Hong Kong's exports to China.
