In 1991-92, the public sector produced about 38,300 flats, of which 16,000 flats were for sale. During the

period, the private sector produced 35,800 flats. About 27,500 families were rehoused into public rental housing under the comprehensive redevelopment programme and various

other clearance programmes. This was in addition to 14,600

families who moved into public housing through the waiting

list.
