The appointment is for a period of service as stated in the letter offering the appointment. Service counts from the

For the purpose of leave and contract gratuity, the judge's appointment is divided into tours of 3 years each; the last tour may be of 3 years or less.

The date of first appointment of the judge recruited from overseas is normally the date upon which the judge leaves be the country of engagement for Eong Kong, provided that

If he breaks his travels by air by the most direct route. journey or travels by an indirect route or by other means, the extra travelling time is deducted before determining his date of appointment. The date of first appointment of a judge recruited locally is the date of assumption of duty.

TENURE 02 OFFICE

The judge's tenure of office is governed by Article XVIA of the ong Kong Letters Patent. At present this provides that a Judge of the Supreme Court shall retire at the age of 65.
