You asked if we could provide the results of the calculations which we had made at the behest of Treasury regarding the comparison between Hong Kong HMOCS and their UK counterparts in corresponding grades. So that you can have a full picture, I am including copies of the information provided to us, as well as the results of the calculations made.
UK Equivalent Grades
The starting point for the exercise was the information provided by Clive Brancen of Treasury showing the grade equivalents in the UK civil service to the main grades applicable in Hong Kong. Enclosed with this letter are two appendices recording the grade equivalents and the maximum and minimum salary levels applicable to the grade, as follows:

Assuming that the comparison provided by Treasury is reasonable, it is apparent from the figures in Appendix A and Appendix B that there is a significant disparity between Hong Kong and UK salary levels.
