We are

at present updating the salary records of staff to reflect this year's salary increase and should be able to provide the required projected pension liabilities for HMOCS officers around mid-August.

Since it will take some 2 3 months to process all the applications from contract officers for P&PE, it is not possible to work out at this stage their accurate pension liabilities. Subject to your advice, we propose to assume all their applications will be accepted in order to work out their total pension liabilities and put this total as a separate column. In view of para. 2(c) above, we should not deduct the full 180 officers retiring under the Limited/Special Compensation scheme from the total number of HMOCS in post in 1997.

May I have your advice on my assumption in paragraph 4 so that we can proceed to compile the total pension liabilities.
