As you may know from reports in the media, the Committee met the Minister of State, the Rt. Hon. A. Goodlad, M.F., on 26 May LO put forward

Mr.

Members views about HMOCS.

Goodlad said he understood our concerns which he hoped could be resolved at an early date. He said that further consultation at the official level would take place with the Association in Hong Kong soon. A copy of

of a letter to Mr. Goodlad is enclosed.

Earlier in May, Mike Cartland

Mike Cartland and Chris Birch had discussions with a visiting team of officials from London. The British team amplified the proposals in HMG's Statement, circulated to Members by the Secretary for the Civil Service on 10 April 1992 and on

on which some 250 Members had commented in writing, but put forward no new points of

of substance. Mike and Chris submitted counter-proposals in line with Members' views on compensation, security of

of pensions and the right

to retire.
