UNDER THE NEW ARRANGEMENT THE GROUP OF COMPANIES WHICH SUBMITTED A PROPOSAL TO CHT (VIZ MOTTS, AOKI, COSTAIN, TARMAC AND CHRISTIANI NIELSEN) WILL BE DROPPED AND KUMAGAI GUMI AND NISHIMATSU WILL BUILD THE TUNNEL. COSTAIN HAVE NOT YET BEEN FORMALLY TOLD ABOUT THE NEW ARRANGEMENT BUT WATKINSON (LOCAL COSTAIN DIRECTOR) IS MEETING

WILL PRESUMABLY BE INFORMED THEN. THE DECISION WAS APPARENTLY

THEIR ONLY HOPE OF AN INVOLVEMENT IN THE OPERATION OF THE NEW

TUNNEL LAY IN BEING ABLE TO JOIN RANKS WITH CITIC AND CITIC CLEARLY SEE ADVANTAGE IN TAPPING CHT'S EXPERTISE: THEY POSSIBLY

ALSO SEE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXTEND THE JOINT VENTURE TO INCLUDE

THE ORIGINAL CROSS HARBOUR TUNNEL WHEN CHT'S CURRENT FRANCHISE
