(HONG KONG, 2 March 1992) The blueprint for Hong Kong's now international airport at Chek Lap Kok was released today by the Provisional Airport Authority (PAA) in a master plan which emphasises efficient land usage and environmental safeguards.
The New Airport Master Plan, produced by the PAA, Government and consultants Greiner - Maunsell, is based on a careful study of three major workstreams planning, civil engineering and an environmental impact assessment.
It provides a comprehensive and environmentally acceptable scheme for the planning and implementation of an operationally safe and efficient new airport.
"The master plan is a milestone in the evolution of the new airport. It provides a clear, long-term concept for both the design and the construction of the airport," the PAA's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Richard Allen, told a press briefing today.
"Let me stress, however, that the master plan also provides us with a high degree of flexibility and the opportunity to make planning and design adjustments as future air transport activity and characteristics evolve," he said.
