SERVANTS
and
In most Dependent Territories provision is made from Government funds for the payment of some (if not all) of the
servants necessary in Government House, for chauffeurs, gardeners. Any other servants needed are paid by the Governor. The principle is that Government defrays the cost of maintaining government property and for the cleaning of public rooms, etc, and that the Governor pays those servants who are in attendance on him, his family, and private guests. A Governor-designate planning to take servants with him to the Territory should consult the relevant geographical Department and Personnel Operations Department in the FCO before entering into any firm arrangements. practice, in the smaller Territories, it is not generally
