(ii) Simplified procedures proposed for OG 1

5.

These procedures have been designed to handle over-subscribed Occupational Groups. In view of the under-subscription of the OG 1 quota for the private sector, there will not be any need for queuing and awarding Special Circumstances points. Applications can therefore be processed in batches and the procedures simplified. Steps (b) and (c) of the GOC procedures, which are related to award of Special Circumstances points, can be omitted. The proposed simplified procedures are as follows

(a) screening of applications and data entry;

(b) production of potentially successful candidates' profiles, in

batches, for consideration by Steering Committee;

(c)

personality checks and verification interviews;

(d) resubmission to Steering Committee to note results of

personality checks and verification interviews;

(e)

confirmation of no change in circumstances;

(f)

Governor's recommendation for registration;

(g) Secretary of State's approval for registration; and

(h) issuance of registration certificates.

FIRST BATCH OF OG 1 APPLICATIONS FROM PRIVATE SECTOR

6.

It would be desirable from a public relations point of view that the first batch of registration certificates issued consists of successful applicants from a mix of Classes. As far as GOC is concerned, it will take some time to screen and queue all applications and produce the profiles. However, it is possible, with the simplified procedures proposed for OG 1, to issue registration certificates to some OG 1 applicants in the first batch, thereby meeting our target of a mix of Classes.
