STEERING COMMITTEE ON BRITISH NATIONALITY SCHEME

First Batch of Qualified General Occupational Class Candidates and Revised Procedures for Occupational Group 1

PROBLEM

The procedures for processing applications under the General Occupational Class (GOC), which have already been endorsed by members, could be simplified for processing applications from private sector candidates in Occupational Group I (OG 1). The first batch of potentially qualified OG 1 applicants is now ready for personality checks and verification interviews subject to members' agreement.

RECOMMENDATION AND ADVICE SOUGHT

2.

It is recommended that -

3.

(a) simplified procedures, as described in paragraph 5, should be

introduced for OG 1 applicants in the private sector; and

(b)

the Immigration Department should now proceed with character checks and verification interviews for the first batch of OG 1

applicants coming from the private sector.

Members will be asked to advise whether these recommendations should be approved.
