Second Batch of Successful Entrepreneurs Class Applicants

PURPOSE

This paper informs members of the names of the second batch of applicants who have been invited by the Governor to apply under the Entrepreneurs Class (EC). Subject to

to members' agreement, these applications will be put to the Governor for recommendation to the Secretary of State for registration as British citizens under the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990 provided that no change in applicants' circumstances is also confirmed.

ADVICE SOUGHT

Members will be invited to advise whether this batch of applicants should be put to the Governor for recommendation. A namelist will be tabled at the coming meeting.

BACKGROUND

Article 24 of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) (Selection Scheme) Order 1990 provides that the Governor may recommend an applicant under the EC if he considers that the applicant has made a special contribution to the economy of Hong Kong. The matters to which the Governor should have regard in making a recommendation are -

(a) the extent of the applicant's investments in Hong Kong;

(b) the annual turnover of any business in Hong Kong which the

applicant controls (whether alone or jointly with others);

(c)

the number of persons employed in any such business;
